OX219 - against opioid dependency

OX219 is being developed to create a drug to combat opioid dependency – such as heroin addiction – and which is fast acting and easy to use.

Buprenorphine and naloxone – the active substances in OX219 – have favorable effects on opioid addiction that have been documented within the framework of medical, social and psychological treatment. Buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, offers a limited “high” and dampens the withdrawal symptoms and desire for opioids. Naloxone counteracts the “high“ that arises in connection with intravenous injection of buprenorphine. This means that the risk of abuse is reduced and thus also illegal dealing.
