Patient requirements
Orexo develops new pain and inflammation drugs for the treatment of several major widespread diseases and improves existing drugs by developing patient-adapted preparations.
Science and technologies
Orexo’s drug development is based on unique expertise in two areas. One is to develop and commercialize new, patented drugs by combining well-known pharmaceutical substances with innovative drug-delivery technologies. Orexo has specific expertise with regard to dry formulations, such as tablets and powder preparations. The other area is the development of drugs based on research on arachidonic acid and its significance for inflammatory disease processes. The objective is to develop completely new drugs for inflammatory diseases such as asthma, COPD (smoker’s disease), rhinitis (including hay fever) and inflammatory pain.
Product development
Orexo has a wide range of expertise covering the entire development chain from early preclinical, research and development, formulation and clinical development to the registration of drugs and production on an industrial scale. Orexo also cooperates with consultants and contract research organisations for some process components, such as clinical trials.
Strategic collaboration
Orexo has licensing agreements and strategic collaboration with both global and regional partners. Orexo deploys a strategy of signing agreements in the phase that provides the greatest increase in value and that propels the project forward best. This strategy reduces the company’s risk at the same time as it retains a substantial share of the commercial potential.
Balanced project portfolio
Orexo strives to have a project portfolio made up of projects in late development phases. The main emphasis is on pain and inflammation, but the portfolio also includes other closely related projects
Sales and marketing
Sales and marketing are primarily done through partners with well-developed distribution networks in the relevant geographic and medical markets. To increase profitability, Orexo is building its own sales organization and marketing capacity through, for example, cooperation with ProStrakan in the Nordic countries. Sales of Orexo’s products in the area of diagnostics are made through the Kibion subsidiary.
