Orexo has a clear goal – to build a profitable international company that continually develops new drugs with high medical and commercial potential. To achieve this, we have created a pharmaceutical company focused on developing new, patented drugs by combining well-documented substances with innovative technologies, and - based on Orexos leading expertise in arachidonic acid and its effect on inflammatory diseases - Orexo also aims to develop new treatments for pain as well as respiratory and inflammatory diseases.
 

Products on the market

Orexo is a pharmaceutical company with a focus on the therapeutic areas of pain and inflammation. Orexo’s proprietary drug Abstral was launched in Europe in 2008 and Edluar for the short-term treatment of insomnia was launched in the US in 2009. In addition Orexo also markets diagnostics for the gastric ulcer bacterium, Helicobacter pylori, through its subsidiary Kibion.  

Competitive project portfolio

Orexo has multiple projects in various phases of development, ranging from early drug discovery to marketed products. Several of these are aimed at developing significantly superior drugs by combining well-known substances with innovative drug delivery technologies. This results in new patentable drugs developed with a shorter time line. The project portfolio also includes a number of novel projects aimed at developing new treatments for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD or smoker’s disease) and pain, based on Orexo’s proprietary, world-leading medical research on arachidonic acid.

Orexo has agreements with multiple partners for research and development as well as for marketing and sales of pharmaceutical drugs. Among these are Boehringer-Ingelheim (global), Meda (global), Novartis (global), ProStrakan (EU, US), Gedeon Richter (Eastern Europe), Kyowa Hakko Kirin (Japan), NovaMed (China) and Neopharm (Israel).
